Entrepreneur’s Wife Lesson 7

In this series, I focus a lot on how you can assist your spouse. But I also want to take some time to focus on you.

I mention in Lesson 5 how it may not be your time to focus on your business or dream at the moment but to do the leg work so that when the time does come you can be ready to implement.

I wanted to share with you my current journey. During the pandemic, I decided to take my writing seriously. I took my own advice and began doing “the leg work” toward my dream of becoming traditionally published. With everything being at a standstill, I had time on my hands to hone my writing craft.

I must say that over the course of these three and a half years, I never stopped assisting my husband with his business. I was there whenever he needed me. And he was there to listen to the stories I had written and offered feedback on a few things I had written. I know I am blessed to have a husband who supports my dreams. I do not take it for granted.

One thing no one can prepare you for as a writer is the constant rejection. I have pretty tough skin and I never took it personally. I would tell myself after every rejection that I am one “No” closer to my “Yes.” After a little over 2 years and several rejections later, I signed with my literary agent. Even when I go on submission to editors and my agent comes back to say the manuscript was rejected, my response to her at the end of every email is “I’m one no closer to a yes.”

Remember that whatever your dream is, keep pursuing it. Rejection will come, but you are one “no” closer to your “yes.” And the one who told you “no” just means they are not the one who God has placed in your life to help get you to your next level.
