Finding Your People

Writing, most often, is done in isolation. You sit at your desk or in a big comfy chair with your laptop, computer, or notebook ready to write your award-winning manuscript in solitude.

These moments are Zen-like as you spill your imagination onto the pages. You have entered into another realm where the voices in your head are transformed into living and breathing people. But what happens after you return to reality? Who are the real people that you connect with? Who are your people?

Writers get writers. We understand the nuances of the writing process that most lay people just don’t get. This is why it is important to find others on the same journey as you.

Last month, I attended my first writers conference. I was able to meet in person several people I have engaged with virtually. Let me tell you, meeting people face to face allows you to connect on a different level. There was a small group of us that connected instantly. There were some blaring similarities that drew us together; however, that is what finding your people is all about.

Connect with people who get you and who want you to succeed in this industry. Iron sharpens iron. So get out there and make new friends. We are all here moving towards the same goal…publication, whether it is self or traditional.
