April Showers

April means new life, the start of Spring, and everything awakening. But for me, April can be a little tough emotionally. Especially this April.

My firstborn, Nyah, would have been graduating from high school this year. If she were here, we would have been getting ready for prom, Senior nights, and graduation. April is also the month our second child was born. Zion passed away shortly after his birth on April 30, 2006. Needless to say, I am a ball of emotions right now.

In my marriage, I have experienced great joy and great sorrow. Through it all, God has blessed my husband and I immensely. Even though I often wish both Nyah and Zion were here with us, I know that God’s will for our lives is perfect.

My husband and I made the decision a long time ago to not let our grief hold us back from living a full life. We turned our pain into service. Since our baby girl is unable to go to college, we established the Nyah Regina Williams Book Scholarship. We were recently able to provide two $500 book scholarships to graduating high school seniors in memory of Nyah. And a few months ago, we were named the God uncle and God aunt to a little boy named Zion whom we adore. God does all things well.

Because we are child free due to circumstance, we have our tough days, but through it all we make it through with each other. As a couple, we have taken the time to seek God’s face and His purpose for our lives. We don’t wallow in the what if’s of life’s ups and downs. We press forward and find ways to serve others.

Take the time to enjoy whatever life stage you are presently in. Trust God’s plan and will for your life.
